Investing in a Network of Professional Support Staff
To help provide the best mental , emotional , and social health supports for our students , BWSD employs 28 special education teachers , 9 ESL teachers , 8 school counselors , 5 school nurses and 1 nurses aide , 3 social workers , a board-certified behavior analyst , and trained SAP teams in every building .
Helping ESL Learners Expand Their Horizons
BWSD ’ s Project One initiative connects our students and families who speak languages other than English with multilingual support resources in our region , including libraries , community centers , and literacy groups .
Partnering with Afterschool Programs
BWSD works collaboratively with local organizations like South Hills Interfaith Ministry ( SHIM ) and Jewish Family and Community Services ( JFCS ) to offer afterschool help like tutoring in math and reading , career and college planning classes , teen mentoring , and more !

As part of their training , new BWSD teachers take part in a scavenger hunt all around our District , which helps them learn what makes our region — and the students and families who live and learn here — so special !
