ACE - new facility The completion of the new amenities block at ACE has completed the establishment project . The new building features offices , a laboratory , kitchen , bathroom facilities and a training / meeting room . The block is completely off-grid and has a number of structural features to minimise energy consumption . It is a welcome change to the small ATCO hut that has housed our orchard staff . As a result of the upgrade , the ABA ’ s two Industry Development Officers Peter Jealous and Josh Fielke have relocated to ACE to further enhance their interaction with on-site trials and researchers . The build was the final stage of the establishment project at ACE and provides a stand-alone facility that is unique to the industry . There was widespread praise and admiration for what the industry has achieved at ACE during an on-farm visit by researchers from California and Spain . The ABA will be seeking to engage such researchers in Australian research sabbaticals to further strength cross-industry research on key topics like tree intensification , drought resistance and yield inhibitors .
India trip A September visit to India to launch the new Australian branding and our onground promotional team was attended by all the major buyers from India . There is an increased willingness to embrace Australian almonds by major retail chains and brands . The new Australian kangaroo Murray was unveiled and is now already on four of the leading retail brands in store . The one-on-one discussion with India ’ s chief Foreign Trade Director was the key meeting of the week . Negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Cooperative Agreement continue and the ABA indicated it could support Indian ag-science graduates with work experience and internship opportunities in Australia . We , along with our Indian buyers , are in support of the new agreement increasing in the quota of 34,000 tonnes to something like 70,000 tonnes .
AGM / Conference The ABA conference resulted in record attendance and generated a lot of positive feedback . The interactive panels and calibre of speakers was highlighted by the number of growers involved and providing on-farm experiences to the discussions . The ongoing support of trade exhibitors and our structure that puts them at the centre of all activities is a formula that appears to be appreciated . We are in discussions on moving into a larger area in a neighbouring hall at the Adelaide Convention Centre for 2026 , which would also allow for the two presentation halls to be isolated to ensure better acoustics . Our marketing team used the event to showcase the industry and generate excitement in what was being delivered . The branding , almond chair , media wall and the involvement of Poh Ling Yeow all contributed to a positive vibe .
