Industry tonnage timeline adjusted
THE ABA staff have reviewed the Australian almond industry tonnage timeline and have adjusted projections after calculating yields against age of trees as per our Land IQ data . This review was prompted by longheld views that the average yield of Australian almond blocks should sit at 3.2 tonnes per hectare . Recent production numbers have fallen short of that , so a recalibration was required based on the age of the Australian orchards and their yielding capacity as they go past their optimal productive age range . The data pictured right highlights that given reasonable growing conditions , the Australian crop could peak out by 2027-28 . There are significant holdings that will require replanting over the next 5-6 years , so one suspects that there could be a drop in overall production in the early 2030s . These projections are based on 2000 extra hectares being replanted each year through to 2030 . The ABA will be issuing its annual tree planting survey this month to update its statistical data . The spatial mapping conducted by the board at its own costs has proven invaluable in a number ways since it was conducted in 2022 .
