Greetings NSNA members ! I ’ m excited and honored to serve on the 2023-2024 NSNA Board as Director and the Membership Committee chair . I ’ m also proudly a member of the Convention and Program Planning Committee and Image of Nursing Committee . I ’ m currently a senior second-degree student at Villanova University pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with an expected graduation date of July 2024 . I currently serve as the President of Villanova University ’ s Student Nurses ’ Association chapter . I also work at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania as a nurse extern on the oncology unit and am a sleep technician at Jefferson Health in Philadelphia .
As we start this new school season , our goal with NSNA this year is to create valuable experiences that will lead all members into successful professional careers . That is why the theme for this year is “ Paving the Way with NSNA .” This year we wanted to focus on “ why ” students are a part of NSNA . At NSNA , our mission is to bring together and mentor students preparing for initial licensure as registered nurses , as well as those enrolled in baccalaureate completion programs . In addition , we look forward to developing professional identity in nursing students who are prepared to lead the profession in the future . We want to enhance membership awareness of available NSNA resources . At the end of your journey with NSNA we would like to hear your success story on how NSNA has impacted your career . In addition to NSNA helping you build your path , our goal this year is to increase student participation and membership numbers . We are coming out of a pandemic and now is the best time to be involved on a state and national level . That is why we will work more closely with the states to maintain organizations and stay better connected . The goal is to provide an atmosphere where communication between the national , state , and local levels is fluid as well as productive .
This year I am so excited to see what the future holds for us as we look forward to meeting at the 41st Mid- Year Conference in San Diego , CA , Nov . 2-5 , 2023 and the 72nd Annual Convention in Orlando , FL ( April 3-7 , 2024 ). NSNA is an organization where nursing students are made to be successful , so take advantage of all the resources and pave your way with NSNA ! Please feel free to reach out to me anytime to share any concerns , ideas , or issues that you may come across . You may contact me at directore @ nsnainc . org . n

Howdy all ! It is an absolute honor and privilege to serve and represent you as one of the NSNA Directors . I am currently in the third semester of a five-semester Direct Entry master ’ s in nursing program , where I serve as the school ’ s inaugural Student Nurses ’ Association President . For the 2022-2023 school year , I was also fortunate to serve as the Resolution Chair for the state of Arizona . I am extremely grateful for the leadership opportunities that I have and hope to move forward in leadership as I gain experience at the school , state , and national level .
I have been chosen to serve as the chair of the NSNA Ethics and Governance ( E & G ) Committee and as a member of both the Population and Global Health Committee and the Health Policy and Advocacy Committee . Ethics is not just what is right versus what is wrong , but instead the application of the principles we have the responsibility to uphold as nurses : Justice , Beneficence , Nonmaleficence , Autonomy , Fidelity , Veracity , and Accountability . These principles are more than just answers on an ethics exam , they are standards in which we should aim to act towards ourselves and others .
The theme for this year ’ s E & G Committee is a continuation of last year ’ s theme that focused on how we , as nurses , can see a need and be the voice for others . Our theme is : “ Everyone has a VOICE .” VOICE stands for : Valuable Opinion in Creating Experiences . Every single one of us has a voice , and we can all hone that voice to create a better future for everyone we meet . Over the past few years , we have seen an increase in violence against nurses , a decrease in job satisfaction , and a tragic decrease in nurse retention after graduation . By addressing stigma and bias , allowing transparency , and allowing ourselves to be uncomfortable and addressing this discomfort head on , we can grow as a nursing profession .
As a Committee , we will assist the membership in creating new interpretive statements for the added / amended sections of the NSNA Code of Ethics and provide additional , easy-to-distribute information and resources on how to build your own NSNA chapter . By working alongside our fellow committees , we aim to strengthen involvement and promote diverse experiences , laying the foundation to ensure that all nursing students understand how powerful their own voices can be .
Please always feel free to reach out to me at any time , for any reason at : directorw @ nsnainc . org . I look forward to seeing everyone at the NSNA MidYear Conference in San Diego , CA , and at the Annual Convention in Orlando , FL . Everyone has a voice , and everyone ’ s voice is important . As we continue building our careers , working on our education , and becoming the best version of ourselves , I wish you all the best . Thank you for being here . n
