Hemmes
Hello Everyone ! It is my pleasure to serve as your NEC Northern Representative this year . Meeting many of you at the Annual Convention in Salt Lake City was exciting , and I thank you for your votes . I will do my best to represent you , the NSNA , and all nursing students nationwide .
I currently attend Baker College of Cadillac , Michigan , where I will be graduating in May 2023 from the BSN program . I serve as my local Student Nurses Association President and am a founding / current board member for a peer mentoring program . Additionally , I have a passion for leadership , and I enjoy helping others reach their full potential . Outside school , I enjoy reading , ice skating , music , crocheting , and trying new things .
My interest in nursing started as a child when I realized how much I enjoy helping others . Through my clinical experiences and classwork , I ’ ve come to realize my favorite part of nursing is putting all the pieces together and approaching each patient from a holistic perspective . I have also found a passion for decreasing the use of stigmatizing language in charting and giving reports .
My goal as NEC North is to help find and slate candidates for positions with the NSNA . We all have our strengths , and seeing where you can best apply your strengths in NSNA leadership is where I can help . We are the future of nursing and developing our leadership abilities is crucial . As part of the NEC , I can help you start your journey into leadership . If you have any questions , want to know more about pursuing an NSNA position , or have comments or concerns , please feel free to reach out to me ! It would be my pleasure to help you take your first steps into a leadership position . n

Janelle Rafanan Western Election Area Representative University of Nevada Las Vegas , NV necwest @ nsnainc . org
Hello everyone ! I am honored and excited to serve as your NEC Western Election Area Representative . It was amazing to have the unique opportunity to meet you all during the Annual Convention and learn about your passions and aspirations . I look forward to meeting more of you at the MidYear Conference !
My passion for nursing sparked when my grandfather was ill with pancreatic cancer . The generosity , compassion , and dedication the nurses provided him allowed me to find my true sense of purpose . My “ why ” for nursing is because I want to make a difference within my community . I want to pursue nursing to make the same difference as the nurses did with my grandfather . My vision for the future of nursing consists of humility , diversity , and humanity .
I currently go to school at the University of Nevada , Las Vegas , and aspire to become a Nurse Practitioner , once I obtain my BSN this December . Focusing on women ’ s health is one of my many passions in nursing . I know my journey in nursing is infinite , as I ’ m always finding new areas I want to explore . During my nursing career , I ’ d like to try aesthetics , forensics , or even one day be a future clinical instructor !
I look forward to encouraging many nursing students to reach their personal goals as future leaders . As NEC West , I am eager to help passionate members find their “ why ” with NSNA . Remembering your “ why ” in nursing will inspire you to triumph through the obstacles you may face . Everyone has the potential to reach their best self , and I am confident I can work with you to find a position that suits your talents .
I encourage you to reach out to me for any questions , as I am always happy to help ! Your journey in nursing is something I am eager to help you attain . Good luck this year , and I cannot wait to see you all soon ! n
