Mikayla Shankweiler Eastern Election Area Representative Lehigh Carbon Community College Schnecksville , PA neceast @ nsnainc . org
Hello fellow NSNA friends ! My name is Mikayla Shankweiler , and I am honored and excited to serve as your 2022-2023 NEC Eastern Area Representative . It was a pleasure meeting so many of you in person at the Annual Convention in Salt Lake City , and I look forward to meeting more of you in November at the MidYear Conference in Virginia Beach !
I am currently a second-year student , technically a senior , at Lehigh Carbon Community College in Schnecksville , PA . Here I will obtain my ADN , and I plan to further my education with a master ’ s degree . As well as serving as NEC East , I am president of my school chapter . I am typically more on the shy side , but I believe that serving as NEC and my school chapter president is helping me to make new friends and push myself to make my voice heard . My passion for this field drives me daily to get through the struggles of studying and test-taking . Outside of school , some of my passions include traveling and reading .
My main goal during my term as NEC East is to slate candidates that will positively impact their fellow nursing students and the future of NSNA . I plan to open up more communication with the school and state chapters . Providing clear information on how members can run for NSNA leadership will boost the desire for others to run . There are many hidden leaders within NSNA , state , and school chapters , and my goal is to find them . As future nurses , we all have different opinions and experiences to bring to the table . I believe that will help form a stronger nursing community .
I am extremely honored to serve as your representative and am excited to see you all at Virginia Beach ! Please , do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding NSNA or NSNA leadership opportunities . n
Greetings from the 2022-2023 Imprint Reporters !

Greetings , fellow NSNA members ! Being your Imprint Happenings Reporter for the magazine this year makes me incredibly happy . Just a little background about myself . . . I am a senior at Fayetteville Technical Community College in Fayetteville , North Carolina , I mentor rising nursing students , I serve as a Duke Education Ambassador , and I work as a Nurse ’ s Aide in the emergency department of my local hospital .
My journey in life has introduced me to many amazing healthcare professionals . It is those professionals that steered my path towards nursing . My main passions in nursing are educating people in ways to stay well and to address healthcare disparities . There are huge healthcare disparities within the healthcare system , and I want to work towards fixing them , specifically racial disparities and inequality towards women receiving treatment within the hospital .
Due to my type 1 diabetes , I spent my childhood in hospitals . I have personally seen how a great nurse can help someone in a bad situation , therefore , I work hard to be that great nurse for every patient I come across .
As your Imprint Happenings reporter , I want to highlight the incredible outreach initiatives nursing schools are developing and explain how those initiatives are benefiting the communities in which they serve . If you want to see your school chapter or state association highlighted , send me an email with your activities to nsna @ nsna . org subject line : Happenings Reporter . n
