Suspension system installed on
DUX unit with totally enclosed,
fully equipped cab
DUX improvements
After installation and intensive testing on DUX
model TD-18 and DT-20N underground trucks,
DUX has now made available its new operator
suspension system on all haulage and utility
equipment with a totally enclosed FOPS/ROPS
cab or canopy. Able to withstand the rigours of
harsh, underground mining conditions and

for field installation on DUX
DS Series scalers
particularly well‐suited for applications requiring
travel over longer distances at higher speeds; the
system significantly softens impact loads and
vibration levels experienced by the driver and
co‐driver.
DUX is also currently in the process of
manufacturing this system so it can also be
offered as a retrofit kit for field installation.
For roof control underground, DUX can now
replace an old scaling boom with a newly
designed, lighter version available with rotary
head and bracket for the installation of optional
hydraulic hammer, scaling claw or rotary cutter
for use on soft material such as limestone, salt or
potash. The new DUX DS-3.8 provides a
telescopic extension of 3.80 m (closed boom
length: 5.23 m). It provides a maximum reach at
55° boom angle of 10.05 m. The weight of the
boom assembly without pedestal is 3,040 kg.
Battery power
Battery power was the subject of one article last
month. This is a field in
which MacLean
Engineering leads. At the
PDAC conference in
efforts across 2017
focussed on rolling out EV
propulsion packages
across the full range of the
company’s product lines in
both standard 2.4 m (8 ft)
and smaller section 1.8 m
(6 ft) carrier
configurations.
“A mobile fleet
propulsion system that can
significantly cut ventilation
costs and at the same time
reduce heat and improve
air quality in the
underground environment - this is the compelling
business case for the new era of battery power in
underground mining, one that we’re fully
engaged in for our global customer base,”
remarked company President Kevin MacLean at
the time.
The MacLean approach to EV propulsion for
underground mining is built on giving customers
access to best-in-class battery, electric motor,
onboard charging (ie no additional charge station
infrastructure required), and vehicle analytics
technology, and then successfully integrating

MacLean showcased
its battery propulsion
program that is able to
offer full-fleet EV
solutions across the
company’s ground
support, ore flow, and
utility vehicle product
lines. It is providing a
battery powered fleet
to Goldcorp’s Borden
project in Chapleau,
Ontario, expected to be
the world’s first all-
electric hard rock mine
by the time it reaches
production stage.
The company’s R&D
these components into mobile equipment by
leveraging the company’s multi-discipline
engineering expertise, hard rock mining
knowledge, and custom manufacturing
experience.
In other words, you can't just understand the
battery cycle, you need to understand the mining
cycle it's going to be used in. This is how
MacLean has developed battery power,
engineered for life underground.
PMP offers three battery-powered personnel
vehicles that can be customised for other tasks.
The Marmot is a four-wheel drive, 0.5 t unit
featuring intuitive, easy-to-learn controls with a
patented modular control system. With four-
wheel independent suspension, it is capable of
climbing 2.5 km vertical elevation at 20% grade.
Crew cab and closed cab configurations are
offered.
