We are also partnering with other e-commerce portals such as “The Better India (Karnival).” We are working towards making our products more accessible for our customers which includes retail store partnerships. • How much does Canine Craving products cost for pets? We offer a variety of products for general to specifi c usage and this value defi nes the price. However, on the scale of cost, the product range starts from Rs. 59 and goes upto Rs.1599. • Does Canine Craving have any intentions of entering the pet care segment? Currently, we are solely focussed on pet nutrition. The vastness of the knowledge acquisition effort with the challenges to create awareness is keeping our hands full. There are good people out there doing equally amazing things in pet care space and we would 36 like to encourage and support them as much as we can to create an inclusive pet ecospace or community. • What are your initiatives towards the benefi t of stray animals? Helping the strays or community dogs (as we like to call them) is one of our primary goals. We closely work with a few animal rescue organisations with focus on their welfare. In our own capacity, we regularly feed 20- 30 community dogs. We have also come across many good Samaritans who take care of community dogs in their respective area, but face time and resource constraint. To assist these caregivers, we provide nutritious dry meals at highly subsidised rates. • What advice do you have for pet parents who choose to cook for their pets at home? There are two parts to nutrition – feed right and feed good. Though the nutrition part looks complex, but the approach is simple. The fi rst step is to acknowledge that a Creature Companion | October 2019 • Vol. XII • Issue 10 • Noida pet is a living being, a family member who requires equal nutritional care as humans. The second step is to be aware of the needs – it needs to be appropriate as well as holistic, not just a single source of information, specially the age-old traditions and beliefs. As more research data is pouring in, we are realising how wrong we have got the whole pet nutrition care due to these misconceptions and deliberate attempts to misguide for commercial gains. Take a look at the other sources of information – veterinarians, canine nutritionists and journals and never be hesitant to ask questions. Once the nutrition part is sorted, providing that through fresh meals is the best thing a pet parent can do for their pet(s). Use natural and fresh ingredients, avoid carbs and starch fi llers to bulk up the meal - its an investment that has long term emotional and economical benefi ts. If it is not possible to cook fresh food frequently, we suggest to make the meal in bulk (at least once a week); portion it into individual meals and freeze; thaw each portion before the meal time and feed. These meals can preferably be fortifi ed with a pinch of fresh herbs like parsley, mint, moringa etc. Use golden paste and a few drops of omega oils before serving.
