POSH FOUNDATION
ANIMAL SHELTER WITH A TWIST –
BREAKING THE STEREOTYPES
By Dr. Aditi Badam*
T
he Posh Foundation (Trust)
is a UP based NGO actively
involved in animal welfare
and awareness related issues in the
NCR region. Founded by Dr. Aditi
Badam in 2012, the organisation
unites many animal right activists
with a common love for the less
fortunate stray animals.
POSH Foundation is a leader in
the animal welfare movement,
through
compassionate,
innovative
rescue
practices
and transformative educational
programs. According to Aditi, the
foundation started with the idea
of promoting adoptions of stray
animals but over time also got
involved full time in their rescue
and treatment.
The NGO’s goal is to give the gift of
life to as many street animals as
humanely possible, enrich the
lives of those who adopt them, and
in doing so, help create a better
world. It is registered as a Trust with
Neeti Ayog and AIESEC, IIT Delhi.
It is also registered under 80G for
tax exemptions (IT act 1961) and
offi cially recognised by the Animal
Welfare Board of India (AWBI).
POSH FOUNDATION
has successfully treated
around 5000 stray animals
since its registration
including dogs, cows,
donkeys, cats and pigeons.
It is also registered for
imparting onsite training
to Veterinary doctors at
the International level.
They have already trained
9 students from veterinary
colleges in Brazil, USA,
Bangladesh and France.
The organisation has a well
established
Nirvana
animal
treatment shelter on a leased land
of 3024 sq. yards at Asgarpur Jageer,
Sector 126, Noida. The animal refuge
has facilities to treat 45 animals at
a time and consists of 45 kennels, a
Physiotherapy Centre for paralysed
dogs, a Hydrotherapy Pool and
other required amenities. It is a
sustainable initiative that aims to
reduce carbon footprints through
generation of electricity through
solar panels, rainwater harvesting
and making non-chemical manures.
The shelter provides medical
facilities and animal food to the
strays during the course of treatment,
before they are released back into
their environment. They have a
qualifi ed team of veterinarians and
animal care assistants to achieve
this end. Apart from this, around 15
people are involved in the operations
of the center.
The NGO also runs Project “Pyaas”
which involves placing water bowls
for street animals across Delhi
NCR for respite against scorching
summer heat. They have conducted
educational seminars at Hansraj
College, Delhi University and several
schools to raise awareness about
cruelty against street animals.
Dr. Aditi Badam was bestowed with
the Pro-seed Foundation of India –
Remarkable Achievers Award 2017
