Having fun Light-hearted moments in a marriage keep the love going. The Prophet (pbuh) always kept his smile with his wives and he used to laugh and please them to make them laugh as well. With all the troubles around him, he used to take his wife Aisha, to the desert and say, “Aisha, let’s race!” And she used to race him and win. After some time, she gained a little weight and they raced again. At that time, he won and said to her, “This time I won!” What the Prophet (pbuh) avoided in marriage is also of value. He never did public scolding/ shaming of his spouse. The most he would do when angry was the silent treatment or taking personal space. He never hit: “The Prophet (pbuh) has not ever beaten any woman, any servant or anything in his hand…” And he always showed respect to the privacy of the marriage: “The worst rank for a man at the day of judgment is the rank of the man who sleeps with his wife and then discloses her privacy”. ~ One may take the hadith in an academic sense, but they really give an insight into what a wonderful human being the Prophet (pbuh) was. May Allah allow us to take example from the kindness, gentleness, maturity and wisdom that the Prophet (pbuh) demonstrated as the ideal spouse. Ihsaan | Issue 1 | 39
