Before we begin the greatest love story of all times, we must first learn about the individuals; yes individuals, two separate people, living two separate lives, neither expecting nor looking for love, but brought together through fate, destiny, divine will and decree or Qadr as it is referred to in Islam. Before he became the Prophet of Allah and before she became the“ Mother of the Believers” they were simply Khadijaand Muhammadand this is their story. Khadija Bint Khuwaylid was born to a father who was a successful merchant in their Quraysh tribe of Makkah; inheriting her father’ s skills in a time when society was male-dominated was both a blessing and a curse. Upon her father’ s passing, she took over the business, hiring only the most diligent, honest and trustworthy men to conduct business on her behalf. Her business was larger than all of the Quraysh traders combined, with the most reputable standards of fair-dealings and quality merchandise. Due to her reputation she earned the titles“ Ameerat Quraysh” or Princess of Quraysh and“ At-Taahirah” or the Pure One. She was an astute businesswoman, but she was also a wonderful wife and mother before she met Muhammad( SAS). Khadija( RA) was married twice prior to her marriage to the Prophet( SAS) and had 3 children combined, from her previous marriages. She was one of the noblest women around, hailing from a very prominent family, beautiful and wealthy; to marry her would have been a great accomplishment for any man, but she was not looking for another husband, so much so that she turned down several marriage proposals from some of the most prominent and wealthy men in society. She had resigned herself to being a widowed woman and taking care of her family until she met HIM. Muhammad ibn Abdullah was born in 570 CE to Abdullah ibn Abdul-Muttalib and Amina bint Wahb. Both of his parents died in his early life and he was entrusted to his paternal grandfather Abdul Muttalib. As per general Arab custom, Muhammad( SAS) was just a few months old when he was sent to be raised by his wet-nurse; a Bedouin woman by the name of Halimah. She lovingly raised Muhammad( SAS) as though he were her very own; he brought her and her family good fortune and blessings from the day he arrived at their home. When he returned to Makkah to his mother, he spent only a short time in her company as she passed away when he was just six years of age. His grandfather Abdul Muttalib raised him until he passed away, leaving him in the care and custody of his uncle Abu Talib. Abu Talib and his wife Fatimah Bint Asad loved the Prophet( SAS) more than their own children. He worked with his uncle as a shepherd; at age twelve he was finally allowed to join his uncle on a trade caravan to Syria. Muhammad( SAS) under the guardianship of Abu Talib began to earn a living as a businessman and a trader. He became known as a man of dignity and unimpeachable character; and was given the title“ Al- Ameen” meaning the honest one, the reliable one, the trustworthy one. It is because of this reason that he caught HER attention.
