“Every child deserves love and affection.”
D
espite being surrounded by people, the life of an orphan can be very lonely. Such children feel that way not
knowing whether anyone loves or cares for them. It is our responsibility to reach out and make them
understand that they ma er and allow them to reach their full poten al providing the necessary support.
Keeping these noble goals in mind, a charity project was launched by the IEEE Student Branch, Faculty of
Engineering, University of Peradeniya in collabora on
with the WIE Affinity Group on 29th May, 2018. The
program was conducted at 'Singithi Lama Niwahana',
situated in Katugastota.
We were warmly welcomed by all the children and staff of
the orphanage. There were about 30 children ranging from
ages 6 to 18. As our aim was to brighten up their day, some
fun games including word puzzles, balloon games and
origami ac vi es were arranged for them to enjoy. The
program also included drawing ac vi es and all the
children par cipated enthusias cally. Some of our IEEE
members who are also members of the art circle in our
faculty helped in making this event more a rac ve and
meaningful with a variety of musical items.
Towards the end of the day, we were entertained with
deligh ul performances by the children of the orphanage.
The event was immensely successful as we were able to
enlighten their li le hearts with hope and create a day filled
with love and enjoyment.
