The Journal Fig 11 Fig 9 13. Use of extraoral anchorage Ÿ Standard edgewise technique recommends 11. Jigs for Distalization : An activated coil spring is tied to a hook soldered on mesial eyelet of the jig .The distal leg of jig exerts distal forces on molar using direct skeletal anchorage. (Fig: 10) the use of extra oral forces (headgear) for anchorage and tooth movement, that is still commonly used today . Ÿ J HOOK HEADGEAR: Intrusion and retraction of upper incisors in patients with vertical growth pattern can be achieved with J hook headgear using extraoral anchorage. (Fig: 12) Fig 10 Fig 12 12. Sliding jigs for space closure : Sliding jigs are often used for separate canine retraction. An open coil spring is placed between the jig and canine bracket that is compressed by the distal force acting on the jig. (Fig: 11) 17 Vol. 13 No. 3 Sep-Dec 2017
