7. Modified torque requirements in adult
patients with skeletal malocclusion:
Adult patients with skeletal class II or class III
malocclusions require different incisor
inclinations to accommodate the discrepancy
in interjaw relationships.
To compensate for class II interjaw
relationships, upper incisors must be less
inclined while in case of classIII upper incisor
crowns must be inclined more labially.
Torque in incisor brackets should be
harmonious with anticipated interjaw
relationship (Fig: 7)
9. Expansion of contricted arches:
Ÿ Expansion of constricted arches results in
buccal tipping of posterior teeth.
Ÿ This require incorporation of extra buccal
root torque for proper placement of teeth in
arch.
10. Reverse curve wires :
Reverse spee archwires are frequently used to
flatten the curve of spee and deep bite
correction.

8. Deep bite and open bite cases:
Ÿ Patients with open and deep bite require
alteration in bracket position i.e. Above or below
FA point.
Ÿ This results in improper expression of inbuilt
torque.
Ÿ The change in tooth curvature at position
above or below FA point result in increased or
decreased expression of lingual root torque
(Fig: 8)
Spee is levelled by intrusion and flaring of
incisors while there is extrusion and distal
tipping of posteriors. (Fig: 9)
