A1. Orfilia Rivero. Buenos Aires, May 19,
1928 - Dec 27, 2011.
Oral sources: TC 103. Interview with
Orfilia Rivero (82), Buenos Aires, July 6,
2010. Written sources: Montero and Cirio,
2012. See F2 (Daughter).
She was a housewife of humble origin and
worked as an extra in Argentinian films.
She built her middle-class home by
marrying her fellow Afro-Argentinian
Sergio Antonio "Gule" Montero in 1947.
They had three daughters: Leticia, Mirta
Esther and Celina Delia. Along with her
daughter Mirta Esther, Orfilia was abducted
from her home (Uriarte 2330 3rd A,
Palermo Neighborhood) on 14 February
1977. The operation was led by the
notorious naval commander Alfredo Astiz,
a.k.a. The Blond Angel of Death. She
stayed four days at the Naval Mechanics
School (Spanish acronym: ESMA) and was
released on the intersection Avenida del
Libertador and Callao. She claimed as
reason for the arrest that the daily quota of
detainees was two persons short. After
separating from her husband, she moved
with her daughters to her niece Maria´s
home. Later Maria's husband bought a
house in 1000 Uriarte and built for Orfilia a
terrace room, where she lived alone since
her daughters left with their boyfriends. By
personal belief she did not join Mothers of
Plaza de Mayo, but always tried to track
Mirta down. During the Alfonsin
administration, the Join Chief of Staff
proceeded to indemnified her with money
