How are Minorities Being Discriminated Against?

One is called lingistic profiling, this is when a minority makes a call and the indicidual receiving the call bases his or her judgment about the person who is calling just from talking to them over the phone. John Baugh gives a definition of linguistic profilinf in his article "Racial Identification by Speech" saying linguistic profiling is based on auditory cues that people may use to identify an individual as belonging to a linguistic subgroup within a given speech community, including a racial subgroup, when they make judgments over the telephone about the character of the individual with whom they are talking to.

Laws to Help Eleminate Housing Discrimination

- The Fair Housing Act, Prohibits discrimination in the sales, rentals and financing of housing based on race, color, national orgin. religion, sex, familial status or disability.

- The Equal Credit Opportunity Act, stopping discrimination from creditors on the bases of ones age, color, martial status, race, gender and nationality of orgin.

- The Home Mortgage Disclosure Act and Communiity Reinvestment Act, to avoid creditors not giving sufficient amounts to less fortunate urban minority neighborhoods.
