HUE
Often overlooked, Hue is a city of cultural
and historical value and once served as the
capital city. Although Hue suffered much
damage during the Vietnam War, the city
and most of the monuments are largely
unharmed. The impressive 19th century
citadel surrounded by a moat showcases
this former ancient capital with an intact
appearance of an Imperial City. Listed as a
UNESCO World Heritage Site, the massive
complex with rich architecture and beautifully
landscaped gardens features hundreds of
monuments and ruins, such as the Forbidden
Purple City, royal tombs, pagodas and
temples. Renowned for its Imperial-style
cuisine, Hue also has some lusty and tasty
street level flavours, be sure to try a crispy
Banh Khoai, a pan friend crepe typically
stuffed with shrimp and pork.
