Nestled in a remote archipelago of small islands and protected from the wild Pacific, the Klemtu Rainforest offers access to some of the best grizzly and spirit bear viewing. Wake up in the morning on a floating lake lodge surrounded by the Great Bear Rainforest, home to grizzly bears. Bears graze from May/June until the salmon return mid August which they gorge on before October hibernation. Day 1: Vancouver – Bones Bay Lodge Fly to Bones Bay where you will be met and given an orientation. After a chef’s sampling of West Coast delights, enjoy a sightseeing and photographic cruise of Knight Inlet. Day 1: Vancouver – Spirit Bear Lodge Fly from Vancouver to Bella Bella where you’ll take a water taxi to Spirit Bear Lodge and be welcomed with an orientation. Day 1: Vancouver – Port Hardy – Great Bear Nature Lodge Late this morning depart Vancouver on your flight to Port Hardy where you’ll have time to explore the town before taking a floatplane over the Queen Charlotte Strait to the floating lodge. Day 2: Bones Bay Lodge Take an all day trip up Knight Inlet to Glendale Cove River Estuary for close up grizzly bear viewing. En route observe bald eagles, blue herons, porpoises and maybe a black bear. Day 3: Bones Bay Lodge Board cruisers for a trip to Johnstone Strait, the summer home of orcas. Day 4: Bones Bay Lodge – Vancouver This morning head back out on the boats for your last wildlife photo opportunities before departing for Vancouver. Day 2-3: Spirit Bear Lodge Experience a full day excursion to the main grizzly viewing area where you’ll be on the lookout for the elusive and shy spirit bear. Take part in a cultural and natural history sites interpretive walking tour and during whale season enjoy a marine tour for humpback whale viewing. Day 4: Spirit Bear Lodge – Vancouver Morning tour of your choice: cultural and natural history si tes, grizzly tracking tour or estuary exploration by sea kayak. In the afternoon depart on a scheduled flight for Vancouver where your tour ends. Day 2-3: Great Bear Nature Lodge Bears are most active in the early morning or late afternoon.
