AMERICANS ’ TRAVEL INTENT SLIPS amid upticks in trip frequency , spending intentions

THE LATEST EDITION OF A MMGY GLOBAL SURVEY NOTED 70 % OF AMERICAN ADULTS INTEND ON TRAVELING IN THE NEXT 12 MONTHS .

Ahead of the summer travel season , American travelers ’ intent seems to be witnessing an overall softening , revealed a latest study . According to the new edition of the 2023 Portrait of American Travelers study conducted by MMGY Travel Intelligence , seven in 10 adults in the U . S . intend to go on a vacation in the next 12 months .

While the figure is a strong majority at 70 %, it is a slight drop from 73 % in October 2022 and significantly down from last year ’ s 86 %.
MMGY attributed the softness in travel intentions to lower-income households , where concerns over personal finances and affordability of travel carries more weight .
Simultaneously , most travelers appear ready to travel and spend more in the year ahead , which is expected to offset those who may opt out , said Chris Davidson , executive vice president of MMGY Travel Intelligence .
However , despite the dip in the percentage of Americans planning to travel in the next 12 months , the intended number of trips ( 4.2 trips , up from 3.9 in February 2022 ) and spending intentions ($ 4,339 , up from $ 2,581 in February 2022 ) of those still planning to travel
