Another positive takeaway , the study noted , was the increasing interest in international travel . According to the research , eight in 10 leisure travelers were keen in traveling abroad within the next two years , a significant rise from the 73 % who showed interest in February 2022 .
“ This may be partially due to a subset of travelers who are prioritizing international travel , but it could also be pent-up demand for destinations that have only just rolled out the welcome mat for inbound international travelers ,” said Davidson .
This trend comes as good news for some places , like Asia and Oceania which have

After the pandemic shifted travelers ’ interests to other options , like short-term rentals and camping , the hotel industry seemed to be bouncing back , the study revealed . About 70 % of active leisure travelers planning to take a vacation in the next six months are planning to stay in a hotel / resort , up from 60 % in February 2022 . Despite decreasing concerns about COVID-19 , cleanliness standards still featured among the top features that travelers look for when exploring accommodation options .

In terms of sources of information for travel ideas and inspiration , travelers were seeking out more sources compared to last year , indicating their increased usage of review websites , online visitor guides , destination

websites and other travel platforms .
The Portrait of American Travelers study offers a detailed examination of the effect of the ongoing economic environment , social values , emerging travel habits and preferences and intentions of Americans . The spring edition of the report studied the behaviors and preferences of 4,530 adults in the U . S . from data collected in February . The information presented in this edition was based on interviews featuring four generations — Gen-Zers , millennials , Gen-Xers and boomers . The silent / GI generation was also surveyed but the results were not included due to the small sample size .
