into teaching, it does not pay well and the job market is competitive and even high school students are told not to into teaching when they are looking / deciding for majors. So much dreams are crushed by people saying that‘ oh this field is not good’ or‘ you will never find a job’. No one will ever be happy to choose their major or job if everyone keeps disapproving future career paths.
In general, there is that sadness that you never talk about which is the feeling of being alone. I feel it almost on a regular basis. The feeling that no one is your friend and that you will be forever alone. Every day can be an uphill battle of find motivation to go to class or even leave room. There is an expectation for college students that they have to maintain a status. Students are expected to pass all of their classes, hold a job, and have a significant other before graduation. The times have changed when our parents went to school. College was less expensive allowing them to have fun drinking and partying. College students today have a lot on their plates. The expectations are high causing the pressure to juggle everything. College students do not sleep making up for the time they could have been studying when they were working. Classes are not even easy. This stresses people out causing anxiety. Most adults do not understand the levels of anxiety that students face today. Even having a job, you love can make someone sad. This can be caused by a rough day on the job or not enough hours in the day to complete everything that is important. Even being able to spend time with your friends, they cannot always improve your mood. There are times when nothing is able to make someone one happy. There is a sadness with not knowing what your major will be something that you will not be happy with. People often choose their futures based on money rather than what they want to do with their lives.
People sometimes have a choice to be sad. Crying during a sad movie or wedding are a few examples of choosing to be sad. We are purposely putting ourselves in those particular
situations to be sad. However, with being alone feeling, it is never a choice. It is social angst. 20
