Like all the school committees at Havelock North High School , this year ’ s Cultural Committee met early in term one excited and energised by the opportunities that are available at HNHS for us to contribute to enriching the cultural life at school .
However , COVID-19 got in the way and most of our plans for term one , two and three were unable to be realised . The highlight of the early part of the year was a great Elton John ‘ Rocket Man ’ themed Friday lunchtime concert . Little did we know at the time that would be it for our committee !
After lockdown , online learning and social distancing it was great to get back into planning and organising , and we were able to add some atmosphere to the Matariki lunchtime event organised by the Taiohi Tū Committee by providing music . We were able to celebrate individual students ’ cultural achievements in the Blue and Gold assembly . This is always a highlight for us .
Term four saw us host the annual Havestock concert . We looked forward to dressing up as hippies and grooving along to the cool tunes provided by our musicianship students . The year was disruptive and disappointing at times but as a committee we are proud of what we have done to lift spirits .
