played a key role in securing the Patu , Miro ’ s Head of House , Mr Lowry , still found a way to encourage and support his house leaders and the rest of Miro to not be discouraged . We all know what happened next . A global pandemic hit and the whole of New Zealand went into lockdown , putting a hold on everyday life and the race for the Patu . We were unsure of how the rest of the year was going to unfold and what school was going to be like leaders were instructed by Mr Lowry to have a break and recuperate during lockdown , so that whenever we were allowed to come back to school we could tackle anything that we were faced with . After a long six weeks of only being around the people that were inside our bubbles , it was quite overwhelming to be around the a house quiz . Miro House was represented by multiple from each year group ) that had to battle it out against range of genres . The fact that the teams were split up to have a different student from each year group in it was a with the senior students and to help re-ignite any of those relationships that COVID-19 may have put on hold . The results for the quiz were very similar to the start of the year ’ s results , ultimately ending in our rivals Rata winning the quiz . Going into the house choir we knew we had very talented students who were very capable of performing a master class . With this in mind , we had Rata and back in the race for the Patu . We had to be daring , we had to go big or go home empty-handed and that was something that none of our house leaders or
11 members were prepared to do .
The song Miro chose was ‘ Somebody to Love ’ by Queen . For those of you who know the song , you could probably imagine that it would take more than seven practices to teach over 90 students the song , as well as the compulsory song ‘ Best Day of My Life ’. We knew for Miro to get back in the race we had to pull out the stops . However , COVID-19 was still lurking in the background and it crept up on us and took away the event once we moved into Level 2 . This had a ripple effect on the rest of the year leading to the cancellation of all house events . This left Miro House in devastation , knowing that Rata had gained the Patu , as we had to settle for second place . We know we fought hard and are gutted that we couldn ’ t show our true strengths through house choir and the rest of the house events that would have taken place , if not for the global pandemic .
To our Year 13 ’ s it ’ s been such an awesome year with some hardships . Miro House wishes you all the best in your future endeavors . To the years below , goodluck for next year , show the houses the mana that Miro has and win back that Patu . We ’ d like to thank Miro House form teachers for supporting everyone throughout the year and Mrs Taylor our House Tutor for looking out for all of us and making sure we were keeping on track . Lastly , thank you to Mr Lowry for the devotion and passion he puts into Miro House by wearing orange almost everyday and supporting us no matter the outcome . None of this would be possible without you .
