MUSIC FESTIVAL
With 2020 being an unusual year thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic , music at Havelock North High School took a hit as all our annual events were cancelled due to lockdown . It was with great pleasure we were able to plan for an extravaganza event when we reached Level 1 in the form of the ‘ Festival of Music ’, an outdoor concert that would combine all our musical events in a single day !
Starting with our beloved ‘ Havestock ’, a version of the famous Woodstock concert from the 60 ’ s , the students and staff dressed in hippie gear and spent the lunch hour grooving to the tunes from our musicianship bands . Hosted by the Cultural a good time , especially seeing the staff band Cheap Deluxe in action .
Havelock North Intermediate School joined us after school and entertained us with their choir and Symphonic Band . This was followed by the Hawke ’ s Bay Youth Orchestra , conducted by Mrs Susan Melville . The atmosphere was buzzing , especially with the arrival of the food trucks . As the evening progressed , our own Music Festival took place with our choirs , orchestra , junior jazz band , stage band and solo artists taking the stage . As the sun set and the lights came on , the Sleeping Giant Showcase kicked off , featuring our senior musicianship students performing their original compositions . It was a real show atmosphere and a wonderful way for our leaving a Festival of Music !
