Despite the many turbulent issues that have faced the United Nations Youth group this year , with many cancellations and adapted events , we were able to that was on offer for the UN Youth students was an online Aotearoa Youth Declaration organised by Lockdown . This allowed many students to be able to have a say and hopefully inspire changes across many different areas such as education , environment and laws as well as interact with people all over the country . Once school was back up and running we were quick on the ball to have our Havelock North High School Senior Model United Nations ( MUN ) take place . The MUN consisted of many debates over the current COVID-19 pandemic while also having a theoretically impact on what our actions may cause . The topic opened our eyes as to all of the measures that should be put in place . After the success of the school MUN several students set their eyes on travelling to Palmerston North for the United Nations Youth organised by Central North Island MUN . There they debated with students from all over the Central North Island on the importance of climate change and how their nations should individually deal with Junior MUN where Year 9 and 10 students get to learn more about and get encouraged to get involved more with the United Nations Youth group at our school . This year we debated on how to deal with climate change and refugee rights with very worthwhile and serious discussions .
