This year may have been the best year for Senior Interschools at Havelock North High School . We entered two teams of three into this competition as a school , achieving great success . Wyatt Horsfall , Katie Hodson and Lily Graham came first equal with teams from other schools . The other team of Zoe Congalton , Braden Sycamore and Cindy Wang also performed well coming third equal . The senior interschools follow two popular formats of debating . The first is the prepped debate where teams will have around a term to think up their argument and the second being the limited prep where teams get one hour to prep before delivering a six minute speech to a judge . We are excited about next year , with an even stronger senior crew set to have a blast in the Bay .

Hawke ' s Bay Regional Debating Championships On Saturday 26th of March , HNHS competed in the online Hawke ' s Bay Regional Debating Championships . Our five teams all put in a tremendous effort , with impressive results across the board . Isabella McKeefry , Poppy Buller and Geordie Bothamley won the final round , becoming the first HNHS team to win Hawke ’ s Bay Regionals since the tournament began in 2003 . The success for Havelock didn ’ t end there , as Becs Cadenhead , Zoe Congalton , and Cindy Wang came in second place . We also brought home a number of incredibly well deserved speaker awards . Poppy Buller earned a Promising Speaker award and Cindy Wang , a Highly Commended award . Becs Cadenhead was selected to represent Hawke ’ s Bay on the regional team , with Isabella McKeefry ( who was also named Most Promising Speaker ) named as a reserve for the NZ Nationals in May .
