This year our dancers have lent their talents to various cultural events . The Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival , Dance NZ Made , the HEAT showcase and the junior dance competition all allowed our students to display their dance prowess . In the Shakespeare Festival Zoe Congalton , Alex Grant , Renee Thompson and Oscar Holm enacted a magical storm , playing faucets of the supernatural creature Ariel and showing their manipulation of the natural elements through creative movement and dance .
The DanceNZ Made competition was another successful occasion for Havelock North High School dance . Forrest Sharp and Elijah Moore were the 1st runners-up in the Year 11-13 duo / trio category and 2nd runners-up in the duos / trios overall for their Fosse inspired jazz number . Emma Davis was first runner up in the Year 11 solos for her classical ballet dance .
Another opportunity for dancers , both experienced and inexperienced , was in the HEAT showcase , which featured several items that incorporated musical theatre dance . Lastly , our junior dancers were able to display their talents in our school ’ s junior dance competition , with the overall winner Gemma Buchanan ( Year 9 ), 1st runner-up Savannah Ogborn ( Year 10 ) and 2nd runnerup Thea Holm ( Year 9 )
The dances spanned a variety of genres including classical ballet , jazz and contemporary . A huge thanks to our senior student judges Renee Thompson ( Year 13 ), Alex Grant ( Year 12 ) and Emma Davis ( Year 11 ).
