attitudes and performances . This was a great opportunity for our seniors to demonstrate what house events are supposed to be like ; loud , energetic and exciting .
In Term 3 we had Masterchef and quiz as well as the Top 10 challenge . Masterchef was a great opportunity for the young Gordon Ramsays of Rata House to show off their culinary skills . Although our sausages were a bit burnt and our afghans a bit hard , we had a great time working as a team under pressure . The house quiz competition went well , with our Year 13 team coming first overall , answering questions on a wide range of topics thanks to academic geniuses like Angus Dykes , Rebecca Davis and Caleb Biddington . The Top 10 challenge was a new competition that spanned a week , it was a great success with each form class competing in a random event . This event called on the leadership of the senior students of each form class and cemented the comaraderie of the form classes . We excelled in this event coming 1st equal .
The year finished with a bang with the army challenge , where the Patu was on the line for Rata , Kauri and Miro … winner takes all . The suspense and excitement around the event was palpable . Everyone came to support wearing their house colours , encouraging those competing to do their best . This event was reminiscent of pre-Covid house events which was great to see . Unfortunately , we did not get our desired outcome , coming third , while Miro won the event , therefore , winning the competition . Regardless of this , we gave it our best effort and had fun while doing it , so that ' s all that matters . Being leaders of Rata this year has been such a special experience for us
15 all . It has developed us as leaders and as role models . The opportunity to lead and inspire the younger generation of Rata students was something that motivated us greatly . House events and house spirit are what make the school what it is and are the memories you take away once you leave high school . We hope that our leadership this year will have some influence on the Rata family in the years to come , motivating younger students to step up and take on the role of house leader . Although we didn ’ t win this year , the memories made over the last five years are far more valuable than winning the Patu .
