Youth Ambassadors

able to juggle all his commitments .
“ I ’ m lucky that university is adaptable to students life these days . I do 2 days a week at uni and most events are in the evening or on Saturday or Sunday . So grateful for parents and sister who have had to adapt to my busy schedule and support when I ’ m busy . I ’ m also really proud of Shivani as she is in year 11 and studying for her HSC as well as doing this role .”

Shivani Sundaranathan

Shivani is a year 11 student at Crestwood High School and is studying for her HSC . Like Krish , she has an interest in law , but is still undecided on what career she wants to follow when she finishes school .
As well as studying for her classes , Shivani has been an active member in her Student Representative Council since year 7 and is now the President helping plan fun events , raise money for charity and make her fellow students idea ’ s known to the teaching staff at her school .
Her time at school is also used helping some of the younger students and is currently a mentor to a Year 7 student and helps them with home work and making that transition from primary to high school a little easier .
Shivani is a keen sports person and
enjoys playing netball , athletics , Oz Tag , touch football and somehow finds the time to play piano too ! She not only plays for the Gazelles Netball team , but she also coaches the under 13 ’ s and it ’ s an age that she really enjoys working with .
“ The girls are at quite a special age , they are too old to be considered little kids , but are still quite young . I enjoy working with them as they are chatty and outgoing , and I feel that I am giving back to my team .”
Sport is one of the aspects that Shivani wants to bring to the forefront .
“ One of my main goals is to promote healthy living and lifestyle , I believe in the importance of physical activity and want to encourage young people to lead active lives and to take part in sports .”
Like Krish , Shivani is busy with school , sports and volunteering so I asked how she managed to keep on top of all the activities she is doing .
“ I do as much school work as I can at school , which helps me to fit in events , coaching and training . I have a planner and use sticky notes to help me be organised , but I am still not as organised I would like . Every day is different , I might find out I have a meeting when I expected to do an assignment so there are times I need to shift my work around .” Shivani had some words of wisdom for young people who want to help make a difference in their community ,
“ You are never too young to start
Shivani Sundaranathan hopes to encourage more young people to join her in a fit and active lifestyle .
volunteering in different ways , it ’ s not just helping at events or doing big gestures , volunteering is also just giving back to your local community . It could be as simple as helping your neighbours carry something to their house , reading a book to an older person or helping them with small things which have become difficult .”
Both Krish and Shivana bring different outlooks and skills to the roles of Ambassador and together I ’ m sure they will achieve great things over their tenure .
