The foundation oversees an endowment fund created from natural gas revenues on cityowned property . Ninety percent of gas well lease bonus earnings and fifty percent of all royalties earned on wells go to the permanent endowment . The interest earnings from this fund will be distributed to charitable and government organizations through grants to help improve the quality of life for the citizens of Arlington . In its first year of operation , the Foundation contributed more than $ 2 million to charitable and city organizations dedicated to serving the people of Arlington .
