-The Alps-
T he Alps stretch across much of southern
Europe forming a formidable barrier and
creating a region of beautiful mountains
and deep isolated valleys where local tradi-
tions and culture often remain strong. Each
region has its own characteristics, meaning
you can visit several parts of the Alps, often
within the same country and feel like
you’ve had a completely different walking
and holiday experience.
We have a range of walking holidays across
the French and Italian Alps ranging from
moderate walks to strenuous treks.
T he High Alps in France are made up of
the main mountain chains such as the
Mont Blanc Massif. We have chosen sever-
al of the most beautiful regions, some of
which are little known outside of France.
Our destinations are, in the main, concen-
trated in the sunnier and drier southern
half of the French Alps. We have two walk-
ing holidays in each of the Queyras and
Ubaye regions, plus others in the Ecrins
and the Mercantour in southern France.
Among these holidays we have 2 centre-
based holidays in the Queyras & Mercan-
tour, classic circular tours in the Queyras &
Ubaye & a linear trail in the Maritime Alps
called Alps to Med Trail. All these holidays
include bag transfers.
T he Pre-Alps is a band which lies on the
western side of the Alps in France where
limestone has been uplifted and eroded by
glaciers to create ridges and plateaux often
towering above deep Alpine valleys like
castles in the sky.
We have walking holidays crossing Alpine
Provence in southern France through the
Baronnies National Park and the Hautes
Alpes Geological Reserve. In addition we
have 2 holidays in the Vercors where the
vertical nature of the landscape is typified
by the spectacular rock tower,
Mont Aiguille.
I n the High Alps we also have
two trekking tours staying
mainly in high mountain huts,
located in the Vanoise Nation-
al Park in France and around
the isolated peak of Mont Viso
Alpine Adventures

In the French Alps the ultimate trek is the
GR5 going from Lake Geneva to Nice (or Men-
ton for a longer finish) making its way south
through the Alpine chain via the Mont Blanc,
the Vanoise National Park, the Queyras and
the Mercantour National Park. Our Alpine
Adventure trek is made up of 4 parts and
transfers help to avoid some of the less
interesting sections.
A s well as our tour of Mont Viso we also
have two other walking holidays in the
Italian Alps. One is a centre-based trip in
the stunning Dolomites region where jag-
ged peaks soar above pretty alpine
pastures. The other is a trail across the
Piedmont in Val Maira where the pre-
served villages and culture make it feel like
you’ve stepped back in time.
