Hidden Orchestra
Hidden Orchestra is an imagined orchestra
created by composer/producer Joe Acheson.
The releases feature a wide variety of
guest musicians from different musical
backgrounds, recorded separately, and
combined by Joe in his studio to create an
‘imaginary orchestra’ that doesn’t really
exist. Dark orchestral textures, with field
recordings, bass, and layers of drums and
percussion.
gnabgnab
gnabgnab -a heavy low end minimalist
drum & brass experiment for close-up
interactive physical enjoyment.
Drawing influence from the nascent
“brass house” scene emerging from
New York (Too Many Zooz, Moon Hooch),
while blending in a new set of influences,
from afro-beat to second line, gnabgnab is
a new project from two familiar faces on
Edinburgh’s music scene.
Werkha
Soweto Kinch
Werkha is the project of musician and
producer Tom A. Leah, a Mancunian
in Glasgow. Finding his home on the
respected independent British label
Tru Thoughts, alongside friends such
as Quantic, Alice Russell and Nostalgia
77, Werkha’s productions demonstrate
an infectious energy, curiosity, and
enthusiasm for exploring the ways in
which sound can traverse time and
space; taking in transatlantic jazz and
soul, diasporic West African percussion,
trembling Chinese guzhengs, rolling
Lancashire hillsides and vibrating urban
tenements
Award winning alto-saxophonist
and MC Soweto Kinch is one of the
most exciting and versatile young
musicians in both the British jazz and
hip hop scenes. Soweto has amassed an
impressive list of accolades and awards
on both sides of the Atlantic – including
a Mercury Music Prize nomination, two
UMA Awards and a MOBO for best Jazz
Act in 2003 - and boasts Goldie, KRS
One and Mos Def as fellow collaborators,
partners and champions of his work.
‘Nonagram’, his 2nd album, was
released in 2016, in an exploration of
how sound can describe incorporeal
ideas of mathematics, giving form to
ideas that can’t be seen in the natural
world.

siobhan wilson
16
Frontiers is Tinderbox Project’s Acclaimed Scottish singer-songwriter Siobhan
Wilson has been making waves on the indie-folk scene for a couple of years,
having played to packed venues such as Edinburgh’s Queens Hall and Glasgow’s
Royal Concert Hall, played several major festivals (Cambridge Folk Festival,
Wickerman, Belladrum, Celtic Connections), and supported the likes of Ben E
King, Justin Currie, Eddie Reader, Sophie Ellis Bextor, and Idlewild.Siobhan is
described by Vic Galloway as having ‘a smooth, controlled and yet passionate
voice; personal, touching lyrics; and swoon-some, jazz-inflected melodies in
abundance’. Expect to hear echoes of great artists such as Joni Mitchell, Kate
Bush and Nina Simone woven into her own distinct style. She can silence the
crowd with a whisper.
Monkoora
Julie Fern Crawford’s work as Monkoora is dynamic, original
and earthy. Taking elements of hip-hop, ambient and
psychedelic rock, she blends rusty saws, autoharps, whistles
and detuned ukuleles with crisp, lucid beats and multi-layered
vocal harmonies. Pop hooks, complex found sounds and
ethereal folk melodies combine to make something utterly
unique and bewitching.
Gazelle Twin: kingdom come
An Audio-Visual Performance for Two Vocalists - Following
on from Gazelle Twin’s widely acclaimed Unflesh LP and
world tour, her latest project – audio-visual live show,
Kingdom Come - is inspired by J.G Ballard’s final novel, and
explores tribalism, social conditioning an d fascism in the
contemporary suburban and consumer landscape. Originally
commissioned by Future Everything Festival in 2016 (UK),
the performance features two vocalists on treadmills,
silhouetted against an episodic series of mesmerising and
violent short films created by British filmmakers Chris Turner
and Tash Tung.
