Year 10 Work Experience
Mrs T Oley-Jones
This year, all of our Year 10 students completed two weeks work experience at a variety of employers. These two weeks are very beneficial for students who learn new transferable skills and gain experience in the world of work.
We think work experience for our Year 10 students is extremely important, and the main reasons for this are:
• Young people are more likely to be successful in their job hunt if they have undertaken some good work experience.
• If you are unsure of the career path you want to follow, work experience is a perfect way to sample some options. You can dip your toe in the water without taking the full plunge.
• It is the best way to get a real sense of your chosen industry. You’ ll get to speak to employees and ask them questions. You won’ t know what it’ s like until you get closer to the action.
Every year we receive glowing reports about Year 10 students on work experience but this year the feedback has been BRILLIANT with so many students being described as the best work experience student employers have ever had. This could lead to permanent apprenticeships when the students leave school, so all starts here. Employers look for hard working, motivated individuals and we certainly had some this year. Well done, Year 10- we’ re proud of you.
Friends of Heritage
Mrs A Lindley
Friends of Heritage is Heritage High School’ s PTA. Our role is to encourage closer links between home and school by fundraising through social activities to provide an opportunity for parents, staff and students to get together. Research shows that good links between you and your child’ s school improves their enjoyment and chances of doing well.
Funds raised by Friends of Heritage are intended to provide‘ extras’ not already provided by the school’ s main income and we are currently working towards charitable status.
We welcome support from our parents at our termly meetings which are scheduled through the year with details on the school calendar, by simply turning up at our events, or donating prizes for our raffles. Our latest event, a fashion show and clothes sale raised £ 185.
Tickets for our current summer raffle are available at the school reception and are £ 1 for 5 tickets for the chance of winning this luxury hamper. If you would to get in touch with us, please email: friends @ heritage. derbyshire. sch. uk
Please remember to return completed questionnaires to Student Services in September to be entered into our prize draw.
Recycled- Science of Sound
Miss Moorhouse’ s 801 Science Group
Our latest topic has been sound. We decided that we would make instruments for the‘ Rainbow’ s End’, eco garden. First we planned and decided what we were going to make. We then started to collect recycled materials which could be used in our project. People made wind chimes, drums, xylophones and pan pipes. Bottles, bottle caps, wood, string, tubs, straws and pipes were some of the things we used. We looked at the science of how instruments worked using the particle theory.
