CUMBY TO

REPLACE TALENTED QUARTERBACK

By David Claybourn Herald-Banner Sports Editor
Ronnie Green is returning as the head coach of the Cumby Trojans but they’ ll have to replace a talented quarterback.
Green, who previously served as the defensive coordinator for the Trojans, moved up to head coach for last season after Tom Dracos left to coach as an assistant in Greenville. Dracos is now coaching as an assistant at Rains in Emory.
Green previously served as the head football coach at Cooper from 2007-2017. His 2013 team went 13-1. The 2010 team was 9-3. The Bulldogs were 7-4 in 2014 and the 6-6 teams in 2011 and 2012 enjoyed extended playoff runs.
He was also the head coach from 2019 to 2022 at Como-Pickton, guiding the Eagles to playoff trips in 2019 and 2020.
In his first season with the Trojans, Green guided them to a 5-6 season record and a return trip to the playoffs.
But the Trojans will have to replace graduating senior Chett Vaughan at quarterback. Vaughan passed for 1,298 yards and
12 touchdowns last season and rushed for a team-high 944 yards. Vaughan was also an all-state basketball player who signed to play college basketball at Pratt College in Kansas.
Replacing Vaughan, Braylon Boggs and some graduated offensive linemen will be a challenge for the Trojans, according to Green. Boggs ran for 337 yards last season, caught 21 passes for 301 yards, intercepted a team-high five passes on defense plus recorded 48 tackles.
