BASF has officially opened its new Catalyst Development and Solids Processing Center in Ludwigshafen , Germany . This research facility will serve as a hub for pilot-scale synthesis of chemical catalysts , enabling BASF to offer its global customers faster access to innovative technologies . This pilot plant will also be of central importance for the development of new solids processing technologies . Catalysts play a key role in industrial chemistry . More than 80 % of all chemical products come into contact with a catalyst at least once during their production . Catalysts reduce the energy demand and the amount of undesired by-products . Thereby , they minimize raw material consumption and shrink the carbon
footprint of products . Catalysts are used in many areas , including the chemical and petrochemical industries , as well as in innovative processes essential for green transformation . BASF not only develops catalyst and process technologies for its customers worldwide , but it also uses them in its manufacturing plants . BASF constructed the new Center within three years to replace an older building . The new building has state-of-the-art safety features and is equipped with numerous new technologies for R & D activities . In total , the company invested a high doubledigit million-euro figure in the new Catalyst Development and Solids Processing Center .
SGJT rolls hot-rolled strip down to 0.7 mm
Chinese steelmaking pioneer Shougang Jingtang United I & S – the first to operate a hot-rolled coil plant capable of performing in three operational modes for maximum production flexibility – carried out a successful trial production of 0.7 mm ultra-thin specifications at its QSP-DUE plant in the Caofedian industrial area , Tangshan city , Hebei province , China . The plant , featuring Danieli Universal Endless -DUE technology , can roll various steel grades including weathering
steel , peritectic , alloy steels , TRIP , and Dual Phase , with widths ranging from 900 to 1,600 mm and thicknesses from 0.8 to 12.7 mm , surpassing design expectations . Starring the Danieli-patented DySen caster , the Shougang Jingtang QSP-DUE plant has achieved a casting speed of 6.0 m / min and a sequence length of 29 heat over an uninterrupted casting period of 16.7 hours . The plant ’ s monthly productivity is in the proximity of 200,000 tons .
By maximizing the production of light and ultralight gauges – 60 % below 1.5 mm – the Danieli Universal Endless
plant provides Shougang Jingtang with a competitive advantage in the challenging Chinese market .
