succulent, sweet
strawberries
The average
strawberry has 200
seeds. And the seeds
are actually considered
to be miniature fruits
that contain their own
tiny seeds inside!
In Ancient Rome, strawberries were
believed to alleviate melancholy.
Strawberries are
good for bone and eye
health and are great for
building strong hair
and nails. Best of all they
promote blood flow and
oxygen in the body which
creates energy, improves
circulation and aids weight loss.
The country folk of Bavaria tie little baskets
of strawberries to the horns of cattle in the
hope that strawberry loving elves will help
the cows produce an abundance of milk.
During Napoleon’s reign, the scandalous
socialite Madame Tallien was known to
bathe in the juice of fresh strawberries.
She needed 22 pounds per bath.
Strawberries
are an excellent
source of vitamins C
and K, fibre, folic
acid, manganese and
potassium. They also
contain significant
amounts of phytonutrients
and flavonoids which give
the berries their bright red
coloring. Around 5 large
strawberries contain more
vitamin C than an orange.
