Now that you know what Rest Habit you will be working on, it is now time to determine WHAT you will be doing for your rest-based activities.
#1 - Complete breathing exercise at least 1x/day.
Did you know that you can use your breath to adjust your physiology and calm your mind? Breathing can produce a relaxation response in your body that will melt the stress away.
If you have selected Step 1, the 2-minute habit, use the following breathing exercise (Even if you have selected another habit, this exercise is excellent for everyone!):
Inhale through your nose for a count of 4 seconds.
Hold your breath for 4 seconds.
Then exhale out your pursed lipped mouth for 8 seconds.
Repeat this breathing pattern 10 times.
After completing these ten breaths, close your eyes, take a big deep
breath in, and hold it for as long as you comfortably can.
Use this time to reset your senses and still your mind. Listen to your
heart beat or watch the color changes dance around in the back of
your eyelids. Release your breath. Open your eyes. Bring awareness to
the calm the exercise brought.
