As performed by cloning Dolly scientist believed that the next experiment to clone would be humans which raised huge controversy weather it was right or wrong. Before scientist could begin to experiment on humans scientist began to experiment with other animals that had similar characteristic to humans as such as mice. For example according to the article “Human Cloning” the following year scientist in the United States said they had success cloning mice and other mammals in Hawaii.

There were other types of cloning that had happen before Dolly and the mice. For example according to the Harvard website in 1986 a scientist called “Steen Willadsen had cloned a cow from using differentiated cells extracted from one-week-old embryos” (Harvard). The difference between the two experiments from Dolly and cow is that Dolly was cloned from an adult sheep whereas the cow was cloned from a one week old embryo. The fact that an animal was cloned from an adult made a huge advance in the growing of the cloning industry. It made scientist think beyond cloning animals now that the scientist succeed in cloning an animal the next step was to clone other animals with similar characteristics as humans so that humans could be the next big experiment.

Unfortunately Dolly died in 2003 with lung cancer that was caused by a virus. According to a source sheeps life expectancy is from six to eleven years. Scientist said that apart from Dolly’s cancer and arthritis that Dolly suffered from she was a healthy sheep all around. Even though Dolly is gone she left three little sheep of her own that were actually mated naturally and were healthy.

With a successful clone of sheep and mice scientist now tried to begin a cloning process of cloning on humans. Many people were alright with cloning animals, but not humans. For example, our former president George W. Bush had expressed his opinion in August 9 2001. According to the Miami Times newspaper Bush said “I strongly oppose human cloning, as do most Americans," he said. "We recoil at the idea of growing human beings for spare body parts or creating life for our convenience" (Miami Times 1). Also, the United Nations also expressed their opinion on both animal and human cloning. The United Nations according to the article Hot Topics said that the United Nations were ready to pull away from their allies such as England, the United States and other countries because the countries were uncertain whether to accept cloning or not (Hot Topics 1). Countries all over the world are suggesting that each country should decide for itself if it will allow human cloning in their own country and for the United Nations to adjust to each countries decision in order to keep world peace.

The controversy does not stop there. The people that are favorable for cloning are the ones that are in real deep problems of their health and want a cure. For example, cloning can help people that are in the hospitals waiting for an organ to be available so the doctors can make the transplant. With organ transplants it is a great benefit now and it would be much better if cloning is involved. If cloning is involved or approved, people from very early in their lives will be taken cells from their organs and cloned them for the future. When the person’s organ is going bad there will be an organ that the person itself already cloned ready for the transplant. There is also the other side of the coin, the people that do not want cloning to be approved. Their point of view is that cloning is unethical for the reason that organs are not made naturally. Therefore, cloning is viewed as a manufacture where people go and buy spare body parts like if it was nothing. That has a lot of people thinking because as we all know life is the most valuable thing that all human beings possess. Not being naturally made makes human life lose its value, which we all know it is the best gift we have to life and think for ourselves.

Cloning has made its mark in the world and in the future. The question is what side are we going to take? Whatever is decided let’s make sure it is the correct choice for the better of the world not for the benefit of ourselves. As we read cloning can bring many benefits to people but also can be an unethical issue where human values can be lost. This is a controversy that will take a lot of time to get a solution form everybody or maybe like certain countries say, each countries will decide on its own whether to approve it or not. The choice is for everybody, let’s make a decision based on this question, which is more important, personal control of our bodies and their parts or medical and scientific progress (even if at the sole benefit of commercial interests)?
