Mr. Thumbay Moideen Graces Cover of Forbes Magazine
Mr. Thumbay Moideen, the Founder
President of the UAE-based Thumbay
Group has been featured on the cover
of ‘Forbes Middle East’, one of the top
finance and business magazines in the
Middle East region. The cover story, titled
“Healthy Choice” traces Mr. Thumbay
Moideen’s business journey in the UAE
starting from setting up the Gulf Medical
University (GMU) in Ajman, to emerging
as a prominent name in healthcare and
medical education by establishing the
leading network of academic hospitals
in the country and making GMU one of
the highest-in-demand private medical
universities in the region. The cover
story is an in-depth account of how
Mr. Moideen’s business acumen and
confidence leads GMU and the Thumbay
network of hospitals on the continuous
path of growth and excellence. Forbes
Middle East estimates his fortunes at $1.8
billion. It also discusses Thumbay Group’s
future plans such as the upcoming
medical school project in Ghana, which
is expected to open by 2017. Highlighting
the launch of Thumbay Hospital in
Hyderabad – India last year, Mr. Thumbay
also plans to build hospitals in Saudi
Arabia, Qatar, Mumbai and Bengaluru,
next year.

Enhancing Services for the Disabled
Government bodies in Dubai are
stepping into a new era of making
Dubai the world’s friendliest place for
the disabled by increasing their services
aimed at catering to the needs of their
customers with disabilities. According
to government officials, the new
initiatives include Smart Gate Special
Counters at the airports, guidelines in

impairment, ease of
wheelchair access
in buildings, parks,
transport facilities,
government offices
and other places and
parking facilities
close to the centers.
The UAE and Dubai
have been taking
numerous initiatives
toward enhancing
the lives of people with disabilities and
integrating them into the society. The ‘My
community... a city for everyone’ initiative
launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan
Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum,
Crown Prince of Dubai, aims at empowering
the disabled within an overarching
framework that contributes to enhancing
the effectiveness of existing projects and
initiatives, and developing more initiatives
of this sort in accordance with a vision that
aims to maximize the participation and
integration of individuals with disabilities
in the community, and to create new
opportunities for them. His Excellency
Hamid Mohamed Al Qatami, Chairman
and Director General of the Dubai Health
Authority (DHA), said Dubai has proved
itself to be a successful universal model in
dealing with people with disabilities. It also
completed a set of regulations that ensure
full support for people with disabilities,
integrating them in the society and areas
where they can be gainfully employed and
contribute effectively in the development
and prosperity of Dubai, in line with the
vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed
Bin Rashid Al Maktoum UAE’s Vice
President and Prime Minister and Ruler
of Dubai, and within the directives of HH
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid
Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and
Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council,
in making Dubai a friendly city for people
with disabilities by 2020.
