they see all perspectives as valid, and they gradually come to a
greater understanding of what may motivate different behaviors.
Now it’s on to the Old Soul. Finally, we reach the Old Soul
stage. As the Virginia Slims cigarettes slogan of the 1960s used
to say, “You’ve come a long way, baby”!
In this final stage of soul evolution there is a search for balance
and completion. Old Souls seek the larger perspective of life, and
have less interest in playing the material game. (Although some of
them do indeed amass abundant financial wealth). They tend to
be more detached, and try to see themselves and others within a
larger context. "Live and let live" and “different strokes for different
folks” are their mottos. They let others be who they are, and
accept that everything has its place.
Their experience of life is laid-back, easy going, detached from
emotional intensity, spiritually-minded, and sometimes (but not
always) a little lazy. Indeed, some old souls have a potential for
lapsing into apathy, no longer caring about life and the world even
to the extent of becoming ‘bums’ and ‘vagabonds’. As the physical
plane begins to lose its allure, some Old Souls can show signs of
being world-weary, even from birth.
You can often tell an Old Soul by the depth of calmness and
tranquility they exude. They may speak slowly and live in a state
of joy and wonder about life and the world. They've moved
beyond the inner turmoil and conflict of the Mature Soul stage.
Many people who consider themselves or others as “Old Souls”
may actually be “Mature Souls”, although they may tend to exhibit
some or even many attributes, characteristics and behaviors of
Old Souls, particularly in their later levels. Many spiritual teachers
