great deal of inner conflict (which we saw as being characteristic
of Mature Souls). As we mentioned, Old Souls are relaxed, laid
back and detached in life. Human existence is familiar and
manageable, and there are not so many problems or issues to
deal with. The main issues, in fact, are existential rather than
material or psychological.
You’ll usually find the Old Soul living life simply (as they have
little attachment to material things), or pursuing whatever their
passions are to fully express themselves. They live their life
internally, walking their own solitary path while the rest around
them flock to follow another. Unlike the Young Soul, they’re not
motivated to show off and make their mark on the world. They just
want to experience the joys that they are drawn to. This Soul is
not interested in success, fame or fortune and its enslaving
trappings, (as they have learned through that in earlier stages). In
love with their personal freedom they find deep inner satisfaction
in the wonders of being a part of the world around them.
To begin this stage – or at the early levels - the Old Soul tends
to focus on true self-expression and self-actualisation, seeking
experiences which provide personal fulfilment within life on the
physical plane. The quintessential eccentric, they can be
found acting, painting, wine-making, gardening, or being
involved in humanitarian, environmental or philosophical
pursuits. Work, rest and play are intertwined and essentially
become the same thing. They enjoy perfecting their own
abilities.
They’re often the people we call “Renaissance” men or women
as they may have many and varied interests, some bordering on
the esoteric. You’ll never find an Old Soul blasting past you in the
latest Lamborghini but you may find him blissfully motoring along
in his vintage 1948 MGTC or 1954 XK120 Jaguar Roadster
(which he happily maintains and putters on himself).
