In indian culture we have some festivals during this season like Makar sankrant, lohri etc. If we observe the rituals of this festival, during makar sankranti we eat til gul laddus made of til and gud which have high nutritious value , heavy to digest, produces heat inside body which is necessary during this winter season. Also til/ seasame seeds are highest source of calcium ( 975mgper100g). So eating tilgul laddus in this season can ensure storing good ammount of calcium and vit D in our body. Now human body is capable of storing vit D upto a year in our body. And 3 days of sun exposure is enough to store good ammount of vit D in our body. Now during this season we have kite festival in india where children go out in sun to fly kites. During this season sunlight is very rich in quality as summer is about to start. So now see, how wise our sages were during ancient india. They made sure than we get good healthy snacks and get vit D for our body which will last for almost a year. . But in some parts of india winter is very extreme, where people suffer from various disorders. Usually senior citizens aged people are most vulnerable in this season. Those who have osteoporosis or arthritis problem, it gets aggravated in this season due to extreme cold. And people with skin diseases, itching gets very severe. Muscular pain or spasm are also common during winter. Hence Ayurveda recommend daily seasame oil massage before hot water bath, which will reduce vata in body, gives strength to muscles and bones and also prevent skin from getting dry and itchy.
