Multiply this seemingly innocent plastic bag by millions, billions. An everyday
behaviour that is one of the actions that are unknowingly clogging the arteries
of our beloved planet.
“I cannot be made responsible for the whole world” your neighbour may
think. Or can she? Maybe we can each assume one 7th billionth of
responsibility and redesign our collective daily behaviours in ways that
follow some kind of general rule that will allow each and all of us, and
the creatures we share this planet with, and the planet itself, to thrive at
a completely new level of vibrations.
How long would it take to change the behaviour of 60 million people?
Probably not more than hours. Not with the interconnectedness of the
internet and the language-barrier-dissolving free services of Google
Translate.
So, what do we need to have happen for this team to dance together,
elegantly, lovingly and with joy?
We need to understand how thoughts, feelings and behaviours are created
and evolve into actions.
Our conscious awareness has a limited capacity for how many pieces of data
it can hold and compare simultaneously. Some research says we can hold
3-7 pieces, some say 3-9. This automatically means that any system we are
looking to understand with more than 5 pieces or categories of information
will be a challenge, and we can greatly use a system that allows us to do so.
This is what the behaviour compass is. A system with 12 placeholders for
information that all interact in what is a human system, and can cast light on
the interplay of every thought, feeling and action.
BEHAVIOUR
The very starting point of the behaviour compass is a behaviour, an action
of some sort. From this point everything interacts in every direction.
A behaviour can be an external action, as in standing up or driving a car or
looking around for a cab.
A behaviour can be internal like a thought, like “I can’t stop worrying about
how I will get up in time tomorrow”.
A behaviour can also be a habit, like “I keep biting my nails and I wish I
didn’t, because they are developing an inflammation.”
