or a litigator who spends most
of your time in the office, you
G
reetings and welcome
back for the 2019-
2020 Bar year! Our
Section’s leadership
is working hard to deliver another
year of great programming and
we encourage you to become
involved this year. One of our
goals is to foster professionalism by
encouraging personal relationships
among the trial bar, and we need
your participation to achieve that
goal. Whether you are a civil trial
lawyer, a criminal trial lawyer, or a
litigator who spends most of your
time in the office, you have a place
in our section and we hope you will
attend our luncheons and events.
As chair for the upcoming year,
I would especially like to thank
Katherine Yanes for her leadership
over the past year and for her
ongoing support. Our Section
greatly benefitted from her able
guidance and I am personally
grateful for the assistance she has
selflessly provided. When you see
her, please remember to thank her
for a great year.
I would also like to commend
the excellent work of our entire
board. It seems that each year
we improve our offerings and
engagement, and that is thanks
largely to the behind-the-scenes
efforts of the board. I would like
to recognize our incoming officers
and directors for this year, Chair-
Elect Erin Jackson, Treasurer Chad

As we have for many years,
we will continue to invest our
resources to sponsor the Bench
Bar Conference as well as local
legal non-profits like Crossroads
for Kids. We produce a unique
CLE program every spring that
is focused on trial advocacy skills
that has become quite popular
over the past few years, and we
continue to look for additional
ways to provide value to our
members and encourage pro bono
work and community involvement.
Please take a moment to
calendar the dates for our quarterly
Section luncheons and CLEs this
year, all of which will be held at the
Chester Ferguson Law Center:
• October 16, 2019
Luncheon, 12-1 pm
• January 29, 2020
Luncheon, 12-1pm
• March 11, 2020
Luncheon & CLE, 12-3pm
• May 20, 2020
Awards Luncheon, 12-1pm
We also encourage you to
calendar and attend the Bench
Bar Conference, which will be
Thursday, October 3, 2019. The
conference is an opportunity for an
open dialogue between the judiciary
and the trial b ar and is a favorite
of our membership. It always sells
out early for good reason, so be
sure to reserve your spot today.
I would also like to mention our
Section awards from May 2019
(photos from this event on next
page). We were humbled to present
the awards to an impressive group
of recipients at what is always our
most popular event of the year.
If you have not attended before,
please calendar the date next year
and do not miss out again.
We look forward to seeing you at
our events. n
