Association, to the charitable, such as the Rotary Clubs sprinkled throughout. All these organizations recognize we can accomplish so much more as a collective, and that we can learn and have fun while doing so!
The HCBA’ s Sections are active professional communities that want to make you a better attorney. Their purpose is to help you advance your professional goals, while placing you in community with likeminded men and women who will work collaboratively with you. Check out and visit with not just those Sections focused on your practice area, but any you have an interest in. With thirty Sections and Committees, there really is something for everyone. You will learn so much, and just as importantly, join with others who will enrich you professionally and personally.
I would be remiss if I did not mention two articles that touch on matters that have become very significant to me over the past few years. First, the new leaders of the HCBA Bar Leadership Institute have written an article about their upcoming year, with reflections on their own experiences in the Institute last year. I participated in the Institute a few years ago and can attest that the experience is like nothing else available in the area. Meeting with, and gaining insight from, such a variety of legal professionals had a great impact on how I think of, and look to serve, the Tampa Bay community. While applications are now closed for this year, I encourage you all to consider applying when they open back up for next year.
Finally, the HCBA Bench Bar Committee has an article this issue on the upcoming Conference on October 7, 2025. I have attended each conference the past few years, and have gained valuable insights, knowledge and practical advice each year. Last year I was honored to be one of the presenters for the Family Law track. I would encourage every attorney who practices in the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit to attend. The presentations are top notch, involving practice area leaders and judges. Just as important, the Conference as a whole presents so many opportunities for connections and conversations to take place that simply would not happen outside of such a gathering of jurists and practitioners. Have a great year everyone! n
