and expansive port operations . Port Tampa Bay is the largest and most diversified port in Tampa , has an economic impact of more than $ 17 billion dollars , and supports over 85,000 jobs .
Soon after disembarking from Cruise Terminal 3 , we received a guided tour of the port by Charles Klug , principal counsel for Port Tampa Bay . We learned about the many industries which call Port Tampa Bay home including fishing , shipping container operations , phosphate mining , fertilizers , cruise ship operations , dry-dock facilities , and more . We also learned about ancillary services that help keep the port running smoothly , such as the extensive dredging operations and security services .
We gained an appreciation of how Port Tampa Bay is the economic engine for the Tampa Bay / I-4 Corridor region , and of the importance it holds for future growth and economic development of Tampa and the surrounding region .
This year , we look forward to many new experiences , such as the upcoming courthouse tour featuring a behind-thescenes look at Veterans Treatment Court . Each event is designed to foster connections between the class members as well as Tampa Bay . As a native of Tampa , I have already learned more about my city through the lens of the Institute — a perspective that makes practicing in its heart all the sweeter . n
