LOCAL LIFE
Scott Hinks
Australians.
“ I and my fellow Richmond Lions members are thrilled that our fellow citizens have been joining our club to and making a contribution to our society.
“ Our membership has grown markedly over the past few years, rising from 15 to over 50, attracting folk from all walks of life.
“ It includes male and female, teenagers through to nonagenarians, people of all sexual orientations and those holding a range of religious beliefs.”
So, what has made Scott Hinks tick ever since he came into this place at Crown Street Women’ s Hospital in 1973?
“ I was fortunate to grow up in a loving and caring environment at Maroubra – not only in our family home but also within our neighbourhood where neighbours were called aunt and uncle,” Scott explained.
“ The only division in our family home was those who supported the South Sydney Rabbitohs and the Easts Roosters,” Scott laughed.
“ On the south side of our house, Dad and I were – and still are – Rabbitohs supporters, while my brother and two sisters who had bedrooms on the east side, followed the chooks!”
Naturally he took to footy like a Rabbit to a hutch, playing from under 5s through to under 17s for the South Eastern Seagulls junior club and Rugby Union while attending Matraville High.
“ Of course, cricket was my other sporting love – back then in my circle of mates, cricket and league or union were the only sports that interested us,” Scott said.
On finishing school with his HSC, Scott gained a Commerce Certificate at TAFE after which he went into sales of industrial computer hardware.
He linked with the giant ICP Electronic Australia where he rose to become a director and gained the opportunity to see the world, holding down roles in a swag of countries including China, Singapore, England, Germany and Hong Kong.
“ I remained with ICP until 2016 when I joined my current employer, InvoCare which is a leading provider of funeral services in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore,” Scott said.
“ InvoCare is also a leading provider of burgeoning pet cremation services in Australia, and I am the operations manager for that division”.
“ I am proud of the service we offer our pet owners during their grief after losing a beloved pet – our service guarantee to our customers is that we provide a dignified farewell to their animals.”
Away from farewells, let’ s get onto a meeting back in 2020 when Scott was attending a social function and met Nicole.
“ I was in the right place at the right time – we had an immediate rapport, a friendship developed into love, and we

married in 2022,” Scott explained.
Scott said he would never forget how supportive his neighbours were when Nicole and he became proud parents of Sienna.
“ While Nicole was in hospital, where I also spent a fair amount of time, those wonderful, amazing folk watered and mowed our lawn, left flowers at the door and later provided food to take the workload off the new mother,” said an emotional Scott.
Now, let’ s end this story with Scott’ s pet aversion which is something everyone who drives into Windsor along Windsor Road understands.
Three guesses? Though you will probably get it in one! Yep, the ugly monstrosity is the remains of one of the town’ s favourite watering holes – the former Carrington, Podesta’ s and latterly, the Jolly Frog Hotel until it closed in 2011.
Three years after its closure the pub was destroyed by fire and now only a quickly deteriorating façade is still standing.
“ We live in lovely, historic township which offers so much for visitors, yet the first thing they see is this eyesore,” Scott said.
Apart from seeing that every day, life couldn’ t be happier for Scott Hinks – I’ d be a‘ Lion’ if I said otherwise!
