John 14:15
This bible verse is short and straight
to the point. If we say we love God
then we should keep his commands.
This is easier said than done at times
yet we profess that we love God.
Why is it so? God’s commands are in
his word. He says love your
neighbour as yourself. Do we really
do it? Especially if that neighbour
keeps annoying you all that time.
Can we really love him or her?
I had a neighbour who kept
littering the front of my house with
rubbish from his car. I spoke to him
several times but he didn’t stop. I
found it hard to love this neighbour
and started ignoring him. One day, I
was out of home and an electrical
socket caught fire. Members of my
household present didn’t know what
to do. They went next door and
called my neighbour and he came in
to fix the problem. That was the first
time he had entered my home. I had
to sheepishly go and thank him for
coming to the rescue. This
experience brought home to me why

God wants us to love our neighbour.
God wants us to love all the people
he loves. It might be very difficult
but if you love God, you will obey
his command.
We have a lot of examples of
obedience and disobedience in the
bible. King Saul displeased God
because of disobedience and his rein
was cut short. Queen Esther’s love
for God and the fear of the
consequences of disobedience
caused her to speak to the King
despite the fact that she could have
died. Through her obedience, God
rescued the people of Israel from
annihilation.
Sometimes, it is difficult to obey
when the direction is contrary to
what we want. For example, when
we fall in love with a handsome man
and we are being told he is not
chosen by God, most of us will find
it difficult giving up the man.
There are times we refuse to even
enquire of the Lord for the fear of
hearing a “No” answer. However we
