is right, what is wrong and what is they actually need in the daily life. One way to do it is to
observe their media literacy level. We can assess their awareness through interviews. First of
all, we should learn to what extent they use media by asking some questions about their field.
We can ask them how they use their smart phones, how much time they spend on the
internet, whether they react to each and every notification they get or not. They can be given
a chance to write down the frequency of their time duration on their smart phones. They put a
tick each time they put it out of their pockets.
Media Literacy the assessments should be…
A successful training program is always a work in progress, and the training cycle isn’t
complete without an evaluation of training’s effectiveness, which leads to decision-making
and planning for future training. We can make an exam at the end of the training and compare
the results with the pre-test and then assess the usefulness of the training. Interviews, tests,
self-assessment rubrics prepared by experts can help for analyzing media creations and
communications. The ability of using media, evaluating the accuracy and reliability of the
message and transmitting them to colleagues and other people can be evaluated by project
work so that the participants can associate themselves with real life situations. We can make
that project’s assessment in three parts. First we can communicate with them through social
media to understand and give feedback while during training. Secondly, we can give them
made up story and ask questions about how they will act while searching the information.
Lastly, we can ask them create an social media account for their job and advertise their job in
there also communicate with their customers with right manners. It can be asked them to film
themselves while using social skills for example interviews or searching for a reviews of a
film, summing up an information, and finding out what is necessary for the job etc. They can
be shown some relevant and irrelevant videos, and choose the ones that are relevant with
their jobs. They can also create their own websites or social media pages as assessment.
The assessment can be made by interviewing with the people who constantly interact and
communicate with those who take the training. There can be a online platform to gather all of
their portfolio to observe. After training we can make another assessment by preparing a con-
test to measure if they can understand the importance of media literacy act selectively
towards it.
Mapping Media Literacy: What are we supposed to measure ?
We are supposed to measure the trainees’ ability to reach the true information, to
better communicative skills with people through social media, to use internet and technology
for improving their general knowledge about media literacy in an effective and useful way. We
are supposed to identify whether they understand how they can pick the right material in
terms of media literacy for their personal or professional development and how that material
improve their communicating and organizing skills. Receiving the media material, realizing
the hidden messages in it and creating one are the main outputs of media literacy education
and the process requires higher-order thinking skills. Therefore we should measure the
change in their expectations, beliefs, tendencies, perceptions, in summary, their way of
thinking.
