Short description
Although they are intertwined with the media every day, the students are not aware of how
and how they are affected by these channels. For this reason, providing media education is
extremely important and beneficial and this course aims to enable them in many ways as
such;

Understanding the Perspective,

Developing Critical Thinking Skills,
•
Learning to Produce Different Products,
•
Being able to relate to different topics,
•
To be able to relate the current content with the student's interests.
The course mentioned above is designed for 20 hours and it mainly focuses on;

Logo Reviewing,
•
Character Description,
•
Brand Building,
•
Finding Movie/Ad Messages,
•
Differentiation of Media,
•
Parsing Ad Language,
•
Newspaper Preparation,
•
Shaping News,
•
Changing Media Type.
By fulfilling this course, the students will be able to understand what Media Literacy is and it
requires and then develop their own preferences selectively.

Identifying what people know and need requires…
There are many ways to identify what they know and need such as implementing a
questionare, a survey, a preliminary test with multiple choices, an observation and an
interview to start with. Making workshops help check their knowledge. Understanding
students is very important to teaching. In order to plan how to teach your students or ways to
present a subject in an interesting manner, a teacher needs to know what motivates the
students, what background the students are bringing to the classroom, as well as the students
interests. For example a cook knows how to cook but they have some problems about
occupational stress and feeling undervalued and communication issues. Regarding media
literacy, we can get them to do some research about media literacy and find information via
TV, books, newspapers, advertisements, Internet.etc. They will need to achieve the ability of
analysing and evaluating accuracy and reliabilty of the message or news. Also they may
create their own messages to express themselves in effective ways. They need to learn what
